Berkay Öztürk

I am currently a master’s student in Global Politics and Society at the University of Milan and hold a bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Türkiye (2019-2023). My academic focus lies in migration, diaspora engagement, and transnational belonging, particularly at the intersection of identity, policy, and global governance. My current research for my master’s thesis explores intergenerational dynamics of remittances among Turkish immigrants in Italy.

My experiences in the Foreign Relations Office in Türkiye and the International Relations Office in Poland provided me with the opportunity to closely observe the dynamics of international mobility and institutional frameworks.

In addition to my academic work, I have been actively involved in youth diplomacy and civil society. I serve on the Milano Turkish Student Association in Italy as a board member and took part in UN dialogues on youth inclusion and security.

I recently completed the research fellowship at the Regional Academy on the United Nations (RAUN) (2024-2025), where my colleagues and I presented a research paper titled “Changing the Rules of the Game? Mapping Barriers and Opportunities for Refugee Participation in Elite Sport and through Sport-Related Livelihoods.” After this very positive experience, I joined the RAUN team to promote inclusive research collaboration, empower young voices, and support the organization.
